Awards for excellent villages
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to attend the National Excellent Village Awards 2009 yesterday at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
His Majesty also consented to present the prizes to the winners of the awards, which saw the Kampong Belais and Buda-Buda Consultative Council from Mukim Bokok, Temburong come away as winners of the bronze award and a $10,000 cash prize, as well as a plaque, a trophy, a certificate and a $30,000 grant for development and security.
The recipient of the first consolation prize was the Kampung Sibut Consultative Council, Mukim Amo, Temburong, while the second consolation prize went to the Tanjong Maya Mukim Consultative Council, Tutong. Each was awarded a $7,000 cash prize as well as a plaque, certificate and a grant of $15,000 for development and security.
His Majesty also consented to visit both the Excellent Village Awards 2009 Exhibition and the Mukim and Kampong Product Exhibition.
The Excellent Village Awards 2009 Exhibition showcases products from 15 chosen kampongs competing in the Excellent Village Awards 2009.
The Mukim and Kampong Product Exhibition features products from mukim and village consultative councils nationwide. The exhibition is divided into the five categories of handicrafts, food, services, agriculture and production.
His Majesty was accompanied yesterday by His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Sufri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul 'Azim and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik.
His Majesty was greeted upon arrival by the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awang Haji Dani bin Haji Ibrahim, as well as Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The event began with a recital of the Surah al-fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, State Mufti.
The Minister of Home Affairs, as Chairman of the Executive Committee for the National Excellent Village Awards 2009, then gave his welcoming remarks.
The announcement of the winners of the National Excellent Village Awards 2009 was made by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Awang Haji Mawardi bin Haji Abdullah in his capacity as Chairman of the Judging Panel for the Excellent Village Awards.
The event also saw the performance of the Excellent Village Awards song by members of the Committee of Mukim and Village Consultative Councils of Brunei Darussalam.
The two aforementioned exhibitions opened to the public yesterday, and runs until Monday, February 15. (Danial Norjidi - Borneo Bulletin).
