Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah MutaWakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah yesterday officiated the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).

Held at the Law and Courts Building in the capital, the ceremony was also attended by Attorney-General Datin Paduka Hjh Hayati POKSDSP Hj Mohd Salleh, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Dato Seri Paduka Awg Hj Eusoff Agaki Hj Ismail and Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Awg Hj Abd Aziz OKML Yusoff.

Also present were other permanent secretaries, senior officers from various government agencies, officers from the Judiciary as well as officers from Attorney-General's Chambers as well as other distinguished and invited guests.

Yesterday's ceremony began with the recital of al-fatihah recited by Deputy State Mufti, Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Hj Awg Suhaili Hj Mohiddin followed.

This was followed by a welcoming speech by Assistant Solicitor General Dyg Naimah Md Ali in her capacity as co-chairperson of the organising committee, who amongst others, expressed hope that the Attorney-General's Chambers will continue to implement its role and responsibilities more efficiently in line with its vision; "To Maintain and Uphold the Rule of Law for the Country's Stability and Prosperity."

HRH Princess Hajah Muta-Wakkilah' then launched the corporate video and the AGC web site commemorating 50 years of the establishment of the AGC and viewed the video clip on the corporate video.

HRH later received a `pesambah' from the Attorney-General and viewed the mini exhibition at the ceremony.

A book commemorating the highlights and the achievements of the Attorney-General's Chambers was also published and distributed to guests as souvenirs.

The attorney-General's Chambers was established with the first Attorney-General appointed on Sept 29, 1959 under the proclamation of the Constitution of Brunei Darussalam and when the A-G's Chambers first started, the staff consisted of the A-G, a secretary/stenographer, two clerks and an office peon.

Currently, the A-G's Chambers consists of 110 officers and 97 staff to advise on all legal matters connected with the affairs of Brunei Darussalam referred by the Government of His Majesty.

It also provides service to the public by maintaining the Registries of Companies, business names, trademarks, industrial designs, inventions, power of attorney, marriages and bills of sales and additionally the correct gazetting of all legal notifications and the maintenance of a law library.

In commemorating its Golden Jubilee, the A-G's Chambers has also lined up an array of activities exclusively for its officers and staff that include religious ceremonies, sports activities and a family fun day to forge closer ties.

To bless and conclude the ceremony yesterday, a doa was read by the Deputy State Mufti. (Borneo Bulletin)
