Hazy and very hot...

Shahrazen scored the opener in the 2nd minutes

It seems very fruitful to put up Subhi on the right flank

Khairul Amri scored the equaliser (2-2) from the spot

DPMM FC And Tampines Draw

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei DPMM FC have to settle for a 2-2 draw against Tampines Rovers FC in yet another controversial game in the Great Eastern Yeo S League at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last night.

However, the point came at a costly price for Brunei DPMM FC when Safari Wahit received a second yellow card on the 90th minute and the marching order. He will be suspended for the next home game.

After the game, Brunei DPMM FC coach Suminic was furious on the referee's decision in giving Safari his second yellow just seconds before the final whistle and numerous fouls on import Drazen Govic that was never called.

In a sarcastic way, Simunic said: "What do you want me to say, you want me to say the referee did a good job and now I only have a midfielder to play as defender for the next game. It was a good game."

"There were many fouls on Drazen Govic that were never called." he added.

The match which was played on a humid and hazy ground saw Brunei DPMM FC took the lead as early as the second minute when local striker Shahrazen Said lashed on to a low pass by Algerian import Abdelhamid and tapped in the ball to beat Singapore national goalkeeper Hassan Sunny.

But the celebration for local football fans was shortlived when Tampines Rovers earned a free kick just at the edge of the penalty box. Khairul Amri converted the free kick which curled to the left side and into the goalmouth.

The goal injected some new life into Tampines Rovers and they almost snatched the lead when No 10 Qiu Li hit a powerful drive on target in the 10th minute but his effort was saved by goalkeeper Wardun Yussof.

With the support of the home crowd, Brunei DPMM FC were handed another chance to retake the lead and this time was on the spot kick. A scramble for goal in front of the Tampines Rover's goalpost yielded a penalty kick when No 6 Edward Tan was adjudged to have handled the ball.

Referee Pandian pointed to the spot and Croatian import Ivan Jerkovic stepped up to convert the penalty. He calmly slotted the ball into the right corner of the net to regain the one goal lead for Brunei DPMM FC on 30th minute.

However eight minutes into the second half, Tampines Rovers FC levelled the score with a goal also from the spot kick.

The referee pointed to the penalty spot when No 5 Khairnul Amri fell inside the penalty box after Captain Rosmin Kamis' challenge.

Tampines Rovers' Khairul Amri then converted the penalty by sending the ball into the top of the net for the equaliser.

On 70th minute, Brunei DPMM FC nearly went ahead again when the Algerian import Abdel Hamid's powerful header sailed inches over the crossbar after a corner kick by Ivan Jerkovic.

Ten minutes later, midfielder Hj Subhi's 25 yards powerful shot almost grabbed the winner when the ball rocked the goal post of Tampines Rovers.

On 82nd minute, goalkeeper Hassan Sunny came up with a huge save when he blocked Abdel Hamid's header in the near post.

Blackened.

Brunei-Muara Belait And Tutong Districts Badly Affected
Kuala Belait - Power supply in the Brunei-Muara, Tutong and Belait Districts were disrupted yesterday evening around half past seven following a massive shutdown of the turbine generators at the Gadong Power Station.

According to the Department of Electrical Services (DES), the shutdown was due to what it termed as a `technical glitch', which caused the power cut that affected most of the capital, and large parts of the country stretching to Lamunin and Penanjong and into the Belait District with disruptions reported in Lumut and Mumong.

Power will be restored in stages beginning midnight, said DES officials.

Just hours after the nationwide prayers to mark the 16th Civil Service Day and amid growing calls for the public service to make good on their promises to provide for more efficient and effective services to the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam, the darkened canvas that blanketed the capital and most parts of the country stood as a shocking reminder.

The DES hotline switchboard began to light up after 7.30 in the evening and was soon inundated by complaints as hours went by with still no power.

Several complaints also came to the Borneo Bulletin's Hotline claiming that the DES hotline was switched off. A quick visit by the Bulletin to the hotline centre, however, proved otherwise as the number of people calling the centre also peaked. The four personnel manning the telephones were seen continuously answering the calls that were coming non-stop.

Other calls remain unanswered, as they also had to deal with other incoming emergency calls as well.

But staffs at the DES were unwilling to explain in further detail what exactly caused the 'technical glitch'. An official statement would be issued by the department today, the. Bulletin learnt.

For the commercial areas in Gadong, the long power disruption was a stark reminder of the pervious outage caused by the flash flooding in January this year. Having learnt from that outage, some businesses were prepared and utilised generators as backups.

The Mall, which is normally packed at night, was also swamped in darkness with just a few lights powered by the building's main generators.

Some restaurants, however, had to close down early as the blackout posed health hazards especially with the preparation of food.

Razali, a cook working in a restaurant in Gadong, explained that the manager decided to close down early as the restaurant's lighting was inadequate and that it was in the best interest of everyone's safety.

He, however, asked the most pertinent question of all last night. Why there were no backups in place especially considering the magnitude of the outage?
His views were also echoed by storeowner Hj Sulaiman.

"The authorities concerned should have learnt their lessons after January but apparently things haven't changed," he said.

Officials were unavailable to respond to the queries but sources, however, told the Bulletin that the Bukit Panggal Power station, still undergoing construction, is supposed to be the back up station should there be any load reduction in the grid.

The loss of power, however, did not dampen the spirits at most homes as many families were seen continuing with the ongoing Hari Raya celebrations. The visits continued as many homes resorted to using candles and emergency lights.

According to Dyg Salmah in Kg Mata-Mata, they thought that the power outage would be temporary or would only last a few minutes but then it passed the hour mark and everyone in the house started to worry.

Having experienced the previous long outage, Salmah was still hopeful that power would resume soon.

Another resident in the Gadong area who called the Bulletin hotline reacted angrily and said that it should have not happened during the festivities.

He told the Bulletin that the January blackout was already enough for many residents and businesses and that another one is 'totally inexcusable'.

"The last long outage happened in January. Now it's September and a back up should have already been in place to prepare for such eventualities," he added.

Power had slowly returned in stages beginning late last night, according to the DES, to the affected areas. (Borneo Bulletin).

...and haze is back as well!

2pm at Kampong Ayer

...and it's really hot.

Back to school.

Salam, good day. Back to work after a very long weekend and of course back to school for the kids. It's hard to wake my daughter this morning after two weeks of school holidays. Yesterday I have visited two open houses and I have another one later this evening. On my thoughts this year's hari raya was not as grand as the year before, this is due to H1N1 scare. But the spirit is still there. For those who is performing 'puasa sunat', I pray for your good health and I will start my 'puasa sunat' by next week *Insya Allah*. Starting from today I believe our hectic schedule will resume as usual. On this opportunity I would like to wish Happy Teachers's Day for all the teachers nationwide:)

Ain't busy visiting.

Salam, good day. On the 1st day of Syawal me and my wife was hit by diaphrea 'cirit birit', I don't really know what caused the problem. Oooh, it cost us a lot on the first day. We almost miss out to visit my family side and my wife's granny. One pinch of rice or a piece of biscuits enough to make things worst for us *oh dear*. So, we are only able to visit two houses on the first day. Whilst last evening we held an open house to mark my daughter, Sa'adah's 3rd birthday. Although it was just a small celebrations, but it means a lot to us and the birthday celebrant itself. Meanwhile this morning my 'puasa sunat' only last for six hours *since 4am sahur time*, I need to take medication to overcome my diaphrea problem. Hope everything goes well, amin:)
